Incident #23: Tree & Wires Down On 1/31/23 around 15:49 hrs Station 24 was dispatched to Chestnut & Diamond Street for Wires Sparking. Engine 2411 Took in the assignment with a crew of 4 as well as Utility 2492 to assist with road closure. Once on scene crews found the incident to be further down the road at Welshtown Rd @ Scout House Road. Once on scene crews investigated the down wires to make sure they were not live. Shortly after crews put barricades in place to keep the road closed until PPL Arrived. Crews cleared a short time later but the roadway remained closed for an extended period of time.
IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ! ! ! ! When a roadway is CLOSED (has barricades, Cones, or Signage blocking the roadway clearly identifying it's closed) is done for a reason. It doesn't mean get out of your car, move the barricades and proceed down that closed roadway. When a roadway is closed there is typically a reason for it. In our case when the Fire Department has to close the roadway due to an emergency there is some type of hazard that could be dangerous to you! If there is no fire personal on scene, no police, or maybe no roadway crews on location yet, that doesn't mean the hazard doesn't exist anymore! So please, when you approach a roadway that you may travel every day and it may be the quickest way to where you are going and you find that it's closed. Find an alternate route! Those extra few minutes could potentially SAVE your life! Especially with Wires down. You don't know whether they're live or not. At night you may not see the hazard in the roadway until it's too late. Especially when wires are down and the power is out in the area. Thank you for taking the time to read this! As always, Stay safe and have a wonderful day! ... See MoreSee Less
